It is important to consider how parents and the broader school community can be regularly informed about the school’s approach to mindfulness and to seek their ongoing involvement in the implementation of the school’s strategies, both at school and at home.
Examples on how other schools have chosen to include families and the broader community into the school’s approach to mindfulness:
- Regularly sending information home to families about the school’s approach and what they can discuss and practice with their children;
- Inviting families to observe and/or participate in mindfulness activities in the classroom or at whole-school assemblies;
- Providing training to parents (face-to-face or online) relating to mindfulness;
- Involving parents in behaviour management of their child and providing mindful strategies to try at home; and
- Working with neighbouring schools / daycare centres / retirement villages to share the school’s approach to mindfulness.
